Rhuel Luttrell (Soke) recently had a conversation with O’Sensei Grand
Master Rod Prejean about his recent retirement from teaching. O’Sensei
Rod Prejean is the highest ranking Black Belt in Shotokan in the World.
He had been teaching for 45 years. He opened a school in Lake Charles
Louisiana in 1968 and was the oldest traditional Karate School in the
United States at the time of closing. O’Sensei Prejean had the following
Champions and total number of students.
1 world champ, 18 Nat’l champions, 14 world ranked contenders, 850 State
and Regional champions,
He has had 13,000 students….take classes from him. He ranked 110
Shodan, 13 Nidan, 8 Sandan, 6 Yondan, 5 Godan, 4 Rokudan and 1 Hachidan.
I am the 5th person to receive a 6th Degree Black Belt from him. 1 out
of 100 students received a Black Belt. The rank of High Master 6th
Degree Black Belt is 1 out of 2,600.
Mr. Prejean is still active in his Plant Nursery and supplies many Wal
Mart Stores with Palm Trees, Brugmansia, Bougainvillea, Bird Of
Paradise, Pony Tail, Plumeria, Lantana and Oleanders and does a great
business on line as well. I have a Quote from Mr. Prejean that I use so
many times. When you are Green, you Grow and when you Ripen, you Rotten.

Hi I want to know if I want to get in the academy for the first time can I get in eventhough I am not a black belt because I am fourteen. How much does it cost to be in Karate?

You don’t have to be a black belt to come and join the academy. Sometimes I even prefer people not to have prior experience because styles vary and other styles do things different ways which can lead to habbits that aren’t correct for the style you are taking. For any other information feel free to give us a call or come by and try out our classes, we always love to welcome in new students.
